I was the level designer for this game.
What I did:
- I created particles for item pickup and the win scene
- I found assets for wreckage site, penguins and some of the low poly rocks
- I decorated the wreck site and placed down penguins in various areas
- I made UI for the health bar and the winning scene
- I found sounds for the wind/freezing background noise, item pickup, and penguin noise and implemented them into the game
- I created the whitebox of the initial layout
In order to fully integrate the narrative into the game, I felt that adding a wreckage site at the beginning of the level would help tell the story better of why the scientist is in the Ice Age. In addition, I added the wind and freezing background noise to portray how the weather in the Ice Age was harsh. I placed the penguins on top of spaced out platforms to introduce the player to more challenges while they are exploring the area. I also added a winning scene, so the player could understand that the scientist was able to teleport back to his time period. Initially the whitebox layout was more linear, however as a team, we decided to make the level more open so the player can explore more.
